April public meetings

February 23, 2011

During these months we’ve spent listening to public ideas about the new park, staff and consultants have also been busy examining the landscape and doing a dizzying number of natural, recreational and cultural reviews. All this is coming together to present a first draft of the park plan in April. Here’s the schedule:

These meetings will include presentations of the draft and open them for comment. Obviously, we aren’t adopting or setting anything in stone on these dates.

The public comment period for the drafts will open at the meeting and last through May 27. The final draft will follow, and be presented to the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission in July. If they approve of the plan, the next stop is county land use for their review.

We’ll post the April public meeting materials — including a copy of the draft plan — right here when they’re ready.

I am not very familiar with the location or what the current fishing regulations are for that stretch of the river but my wife and I have spent a lifetime of visiting Oregon parks and recognize what they either have or lack in usability.

We typically fish in whatever mode is allowed, I.E. boating, motorized or non-motorized, bank fishing, fly fishing ect. We adapt and are happy to do so.

What we feel would be nice is a large riverfront stretch with benches, fire rings along with handicapped dock access all fishable and usable by both RV campers and day use parties as well.

Thus providing Bank fishing from the benched area, float tube or wader style as well.

With the benches and fire rings there for a base area to allow fishermen or picnicing to set up with their families.

Keep the RV camp sights and tent sights a decent distance from the river area and allow the darkness to provide it’s own beauty without being disturbed by artificial light, generators, and the noise produced by campers and their high tech gear.

This will help bring back the historic Oregon fishing scene when families set up to picnic, roast wieners and schmores and fish beside the river without the disterbance of all the RV and high tech gear now used. Let that stay back in the campground.

The less area lighting the better. The trails can be lighted with small low energy, solar lighting.

Also a well run recycle system that encourages more waste to leave the campground than comes in.

Thank You for allowing our input.

We trust you will let the voice of the land be the eternal guide of it’s use.
